Dominic Fritz prepares municipal appointments before leaving Timișoara mayoralty

Dominic Fritz, the Mayor of Timișoara, is preparing to leave office at the end of September following a High Court ruling that confirmed a conflict of interest. In his final weeks, Fritz is moving to appoint new members to the boards of directors for key municipal companies, including the public transport company and the municipal roads authority.

The transition is marked by intense political friction between Fritz (USR) and Alfred Simonis, the President of the Timiș County Council (PSD). Simonis has criticized Fritz, stating that the mayor is attempting to divert attention from his legal situation and claiming that “Timișoara is much larger than one man.”

Furthermore, the administration faces scrutiny as USR has taken control of municipal companies, but two USR vice-mayors, Ruben Lațcău and Paula Romocean, are also under investigation by the National Integrity Agency (ANI) for potential incompatibilities.
