Overview

In early July 2026 the National Agency for Integrity (ANI) confirmed Paula Romocean’s incompatibility with public office in Timișoara. The Senate’s Legal Commission then approved a PSD‑proposed amendment to the ANI law that would automatically terminate the mandates of officials found definitively incompatible or in a conflict of interest, even for cases that predate the legislation. The bill is slated for a final plenary vote later that day, with opponents signalling they will challenge its constitutionality before Romania’s Constitutional Court, warning of further risks to EU‑backed funding.
