Dominican Republic crackdown detains dozens of Haitians, 1,100 irregulars

Dominican Republic authorities carried out several migration enforcement operations in July 2026. The army detained 30 Haitian nationals in Constanza, La Vega during patrols aimed at curbing irregular entry. In separate operations in Valverde and Santiago Rodríguez provinces, the army arrested three Dominican citizens who were transporting a total of 28 Haitian migrants in irregular status, seizing the vehicles used and an iPhone. The Directorate General of Migration reported that across the country 1,102 foreign nationals in irregular condition were intercepted in various provinces, with the highest numbers in Santo Domingo and La Altagracia. Of those, 872 were deported through border posts in El Santiago, Dajabón, Jimaní and Pedernales.

These actions reflect a broader effort by the Dominican government to strengthen border control and address illegal migration.
