Dominican authorities detain migrants and suspect traffickers in separate operations
Authorities in the Dominican Republic have conducted separate operations targeting undocumented migrants and suspected human trafficking.
In La Romana, the General Directorate of Migration (DGM), supported by security forces, raided approximately 25 commercial establishments, including fast-food outlets and Chinese-owned businesses. The operation resulted in the detention of 41 Haitian nationals without legal documentation; 31 were found working and 10 were customers. Officials noted resistance from some Dominican citizens during the arrests. The detainees were moved to the Benerito Migration Processing Center to investigate potential links to human trafficking and labor exploitation.
In Montecristi, the Dominican Army intercepted a vehicle in the El Callar sector during border patrols. Two women were detained alongside four Haitian nationals found in the vehicle without legal status. Military reports suggest the women may be part of a structure involved in illicit human trafficking in the Northwest Line. The suspects and seized evidence have been handed over to judicial authorities for investigation.
