Dominican Republic Electoral Authority Defends ID Card Emblem, Upholds Survey Rules and Appeals US Court Ruling

Junta Central Electoral (JCE) President Román Jáquez Liranzo said the national coat of arms featured on the new Dominican identity and electoral card is certified by the Comisión Permanente de Efemérides Patrias and the Instituto Duartiano and fully complies with Dominican law. He added that criticism of the emblem on social media is intended to spread misinformation and garner “likes”.

Jáquez also clarified that the regulation governing the registration of poll‑ster firms and the publication of electoral surveys has not been annulled; the JCE merely suspended consideration of two reconsideration requests pending a decision from the Tribunal Superior Electoral, leaving the rule in full force.

In a separate development, the JCE announced it will appeal a United States District Court judgment ordering payment for alleged services it did not contract, asserting the institution was not properly notified and will use all legal avenues to protect its reputation and public funds.

The authority reported that the rollout of the new ID cards is proceeding ahead of schedule, having produced over 2.2 million cards in the first three months—exceeding its target—and expects to reach about nine million by March 2027.
