Dominican families protest at Russian Embassy over citizens fighting in Ukraine

Families of Dominican citizens gathered at the Russian Embassy in the Dominican Republic to protest and demand the return of their relatives. They claim approximately 150 Dominicans are currently in Russia, with about 50 hailing from the community of Haina, after being allegedly deceived by fraudulent job offers.

According to the families, many of these individuals were recruited through social media or job agencies with promises of high-paying roles as mechanics, electricians, or publicists, with some reports citing potential monthly salaries of 12,000 dollars. Instead of civilian employment, they claim these men were sent to the front lines of the conflict between Russia and Ukraine.

Protesters and relatives reported that the men are facing severe health issues, including untreated injuries and extreme physical distress, and are being forced into combat. Families are calling for intervention from both the Dominican and Russian governments to facilitate the safe return of their loved ones.
