Dominican Government Distributes Emergency Bonuses to 1,766 Flood‑Hit Families in Greater Santo Domingo

On 26 June 2026 the Dominican Republic’s Directorate of Social Development, Supérate, began handing out an emergency cash bonus to 1,766 families in the Greater Santo Domingo area that were severely affected by heavy rains and flooding in April. Each household received RD$7,000, amounting to a total investment of RD$12.362 million.

The payment is part of the government’s Protection Social Adaptive (PSA) strategy aimed at strengthening resilience of vulnerable households during crises. Supérate director‑general Mayra Jiménez highlighted that the assistance complements previous aid—including more than 7,000 appliances, thousands of household items and over 20,000 food rations—provided after the floods. Mayor Junior Santos of Los Alcarrizos noted ongoing drainage and sanitation projects to further reduce flood risk.

Distribution took place at the Los Alcarrizos multi‑use centre and was scheduled to continue the next day at the Liceo Profesor Germán Martínez in the Distrito Nacional, with mobile banking units facilitating cash exchange. Similar deliveries are planned for Santo Domingo Norte in the coming week.
