Dominican Republic heat wave persists, showers forecast
Entities: Instituto Nacional de Meteorología e Hidrología (Inameh) · Servicio Nacional de Meteorología e Hidrología del Perú (Senamhi) · Inameh (Instituto Nacional de Meteorología e Hidrología) · Instituto Dominicano de Meteorología (Indomet) · Tropical Wave N.º 30
Overview
The heat wave that has kept temperatures near 39 °C across the Dominican Republic continues, with Saharan dust maintaining low humidity. The Centre for Emergency Operations (COE) has kept most provinces under green alerts while issuing yellow warnings where river levels rise, urging people to avoid crossing waterways.
On 19 July, the regional tropical wave 28 moved westward, bringing increased humidity and isolated showers to a range of provinces—including Hato Mayor, Monte Plata, San Cristóbal, Monseñor Nouel, San Juan and parts of the capital—while temperatures stayed high at 33‑35 °C.
A forecast issued for 25 July projected a similarly hot day (31‑35 °C) with scattered thunderstorms in La Altagracia, El Seibo, Sánchez Ramírez, Monte Plata, San Juan and Elías Piña. Authorities again reminded residents and visitors to stay hydrated, limit sun exposure and protect vulnerable groups.
Maritime guidance still advises small‑ and medium‑size vessels to remain in port along both coasts because of abnormal winds and dangerous waves. The combination of extreme heat, dust, and intermittent rain continues to drive flood‑risk alerts and public health advisories.
