Dominican journalism associations host AI training workshops

Journalism associations in the Dominican Republic are organizing training sessions to address the integration of artificial intelligence in newsrooms. The Dominican Association of Tourism Press (Adompretur) Punta Cana branch is hosting a workshop featuring international speaker Jürgen Klaric to explore how AI can assist in research, content production, and audience connection.

Simultaneously, Asociación Cibao held a meeting for media representatives in the northern region to discuss “Artificial intelligence, ethics, and journalistic credibility.” Expert Renato González Disla demonstrated how tools like Google Pinpoint and Gemini Notebook can help journalists process large volumes of data, build timelines, and summarize documents.

Speakers emphasized that while AI offers significant opportunities for investigation and efficiency, it must serve as an assistant rather than a replacement for professional judgment. Key challenges highlighted include the risk of “hallucinations”—where AI generates false information—as well as algorithmic bias and the critical need for rigorous fact-checking to maintain public trust.
