Dominican journalists' TV clash raises state‑media corruption claims

During a televised special commemorating Chabelly’s 37‑year career, Dominican journalists Joseph Cáceres and Jesús Nova engaged in a heated dispute that nearly turned physical. Nova accused the country’s media of hypocrisy and alleged that state broadcasters sell airtime to artists for payment, questioning why Chabelly lacks recognition.

Cáceres, a member of the artists’ press association Acroarte, denounced Nova’s remarks as an attack on the guild, called him a “charlatan” and “payolero,” and cited the CERTV director’s threat of legal action. In a subsequent interview, Cáceres claimed to possess the names of artists who have paid thousands for such placements, intensifying accusations of corruption within state‑run radio and television. No further legal steps have been reported.
