Dominican Liberation Party criticizes Abinader administration

The Dominican Liberation Party (PLD) has issued a series of criticisms against President Luis Abinader and the ruling Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM), focusing on economic instability and governance. Opposition leaders, including Johnny Pujols and Yván Lorenzo, claim the administration has failed to meet 2020 campaign promises regarding food prices, crime reduction, and anti-corruption efforts.

Key economic concerns raised by the PLD include a significant increase in the public payroll and rising national debt. Economists within the party, such as Richard Medina and Juan Temístocles Montás, highlighted a sustained rise in the cost of living, noting that inflation for food items like rice, beans, and meat has significantly outpaced wage growth. They also warned that debt interest payments are approaching levels comparable to education spending, potentially threatening future market stability.

Furthermore, the PLD accused the government of using public employment to favor party militants and described recent official reshuffles as mere ‘analgesics’ that fail to address systemic issues like corruption and fiscal mismanagement.
