Dominican Liberation Party denies internal rift after primary suspension

Leaders of the Dominican Liberation Party (PLD) have denied reports of an internal fracture following the suspension of a planned primary to gauge support among presidential aspirants. Party officials maintain that the organization remains unified and is focused on strengthening its structures ahead of the 2028 elections.

Ydenia Doñé, spokesperson for the PLD deputy bloc, stated that the party possesses the maturity to overcome differences and dismissed concerns that the suspension would lead to a division. Rubén Bichara explained that the decision was driven by logistical and technical difficulties, specifically noting a limited number of technical teams available from the Central Electoral Board (JCE) to facilitate an automated process.

In contrast to the official party stance, former deputy and communicator José Laluz has criticized the current state of the PLD. Laluz argued that the party has become an “electoral shell,” claiming it has lost the intellectual and formative essence established by its founder, Juan Bosch, which once functioned as a political laboratory for training leaders in various administrative fields.
