Gonzalo Castillo presidential campaign activities

Gonzalo Castillo, a presidential aspirant for the Dominican Liberation Party (PLD), has initiated a series of political activities to strengthen his candidacy for the 2028 electoral process.

Initially, Castillo conducted a tour of the United States, visiting locations such as New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, and Rhode Island. The tour focused on connecting with the Dominican diaspora, meeting with business leaders, and consolidating party structures abroad.

Following this, Castillo transitioned to a national tour within the Dominican Republic, including a visit to San Pedro de Macorís. During this visit, he advocated for party unity ahead of an internal consultation scheduled for October 18. Addressing local water scarcity, Castillo proposed the construction of dams on rivers such as the Soco and Chavón to improve agricultural production and regional economic stability.

As the October 18 internal consultation approaches, PLD leaders are intensifying mobilization efforts. In Barahona, former President Danilo Medina presided over an assembly where 1,150 new members were sworn in, signaling what he described as a “political recovery” for the party in the southern region. Medina has urged members to participate in the consultation and vote for their preferred presidential aspirant “without fanaticism.”

Other presidential aspirants are also coordinating strategies. Abel Martínez has proposed that opposition leaders establish clear rules and a dialogue mechanism to coordinate support in the event of a second-round runoff in 2028. Meanwhile, Francisco Javier García has emphasized the necessity of continuous grassroots work and has received support from leaders such as Simón Lizardo and Plutarco Pérez. Amidst these strategic discussions, Castillo continues to center his platform on infrastructure and economic relief.
