PLD faces internal tension ahead of October 18 consultation
The Dominican Liberation Party (PLD) is facing internal tension ahead of its scheduled internal consultation on October 18. Aspirant Francisco Javier García has withdrawn from the process, alleging potential sabotage and electoral fraud. García claimed that certain party members are maneuvering to favor aspirant Gonzalo Castillo and criticized the exclusion of 523,000 members from the electoral roll.
In contrast, the PLD's Organizing Commission for the Presidential Aspirants (CONAP 2026), led by Cristina Lizardo, reported high attendance and discipline during a recent assembly of party leaders. Lizardo characterized the gathering as a successful step toward the upcoming consultation and the party's broader goals for the 2028 elections.
