Dominican Liberation Party grapples with internal disputes over candidate process
Party leader Karen Ricardo told a radio program that the Partido de la Liberación Dominicana (PLD) is strengthening its internal structure and aims to regain public confidence ahead of the 2028 elections. She highlighted ongoing concerns in Santo Domingo Este, such as deteriorating public services and delayed investor permits, and stressed the need to preserve successful public‑policy programs regardless of which administration is in power.
At the same time, PLD members expressed discontent after party secretary‑general Johnny Pujols chaired a virtual meeting that included only the team of presidential hopeful Gonzalo Castillo. Critics argued that Pujols, as the party’s impartial arbiter, should ensure equal conditions for all aspirants and warned that the meeting could be seen as endorsing one candidacy. The dispute underscores tensions within the PLD as it prepares for its internal candidate selection and the upcoming national elections.
