Dominican man suspected of being recruited for Russian military via fake job offer

The family of José Miguel García Gil, a 37-year-old resident of Santiago, Dominican Republic, fears he has been deceived by a fraudulent job offer and forced into military service in Russia.

According to his sister, Jocelyn Jiménez, García Gil left the country on July 27 after being promised a position as a welder and mechanic, with the offer purportedly including travel and accommodation arrangements. However, communication with him has become difficult, and he has reportedly avoided video calls that would confirm his location.

Suspicions intensified after García Gil sent a photograph to his wife showing him wearing a Russian military uniform. His family maintains that he has no prior military experience and believes he may have fallen victim to a human trafficking network that uses false employment opportunities to recruit individuals for the conflict in Ukraine.
