Dominican Migration Agent Accused of Assault in Monte Plata
Ana Gerardo Aquino alleges that her 20‑year‑old son, Redelin de Jesús, was assaulted by an agent of the Dirección General de Migración during an operation on 3 July in the Los Suizos sector of Monte Plata, Dominican Republic. Security‑camera footage from a local store shows agents detaining a Haitian citizen, then demanding the son’s identity card; an agent is seen attempting to break the card, after which the son resists and is struck. The video also suggests the agent drew a firearm in the confrontation. The operation involved five men and one woman traveling in a vehicle marked with unit 291. Aquino filed a formal complaint with the agency’s headquarters more than 12 days ago, submitting the video, but says she has received no response. She has called on the director of the migration agency to launch an investigation, identify the officers involved, and impose sanctions if misconduct is confirmed.
