Dominican nationals returning from Russia after military recruitment attempt

The Dominican Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MIREX) has coordinated the safe return of four Dominican nationals from Russia. The individuals had traveled to Russia with the intention of joining the Russian Armed Forces but subsequently decided not to sign military contracts.

According to official statements, the four citizens contacted the Dominican Embassy in Moscow on October 23 to communicate their decision. Following this, the Russian Ministry of Defense provided airfare to transport them to Moscow, where they were received by Dominican diplomatic officials. The embassy provided them with logistical assistance, food, and lodging.

While the Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized that the citizens remained in a safe environment without threats to their physical integrity during the repatriation process, investigative reports indicate the individuals had previously sought refuge at the embassy after reporting death threats from alleged recruiters. Additionally, reports suggest a fifth Dominican national remains missing and is believed to be held by individuals linked to the Russian military.
