Dominican Police deploy new patrolling model in Verón–Punta Cana

The Dominican National Police is implementing a new preventive patrolling model in the Verón–Punta Cana and Bávaro regions to strengthen public safety and improve emergency response times. This initiative, announced by President Luis Abinader, involves the deployment of 990 trained and equipped agents across the eastern region.

The new security scheme establishes 84 quadrants and 39 police corridors distributed among seven departments in La Altagracia, including Verón, Higüey, Villa Cerro, La Otra Banda, El Hoyo de Friusa, Bayahíbe, and San Rafael de Yuma. The goal is to increase presence in residential communities and commercial zones.

This deployment follows recent security concerns in the area, including reports of an assault near the Verón–Punta Cana City Hall and a violent incident in Villa Playwood. In the latter, residents reported that two men on a motorcycle threatened locals and fired shots into the air, causing significant alarm among families and children.
