Dominican political parties ramp up 2028 election preparations

Political organizations in the Dominican Republic are intensifying their territorial presence and internal preparations for the 2028 elections. Leonel Fernández, president of the Fuerza del Pueblo (FP), has led a series of provincial assemblies in regions including La Vega, Bonao, and San Francisco de Macorís to strengthen party structures and evaluate organizational goals across all 32 provinces.

Simultaneously, the Partido de la Liberación Dominicana (PLD) is managing internal dynamics ahead of an October consultation. The campaign team for presidential aspirant Gonzalo Castillo is actively expanding its political structure across approximately 40 territories, emphasizing party unity and democratic processes. This comes amid internal friction, as some candidates have criticized the party's communication regarding presidential debates.

Economic concerns also remain a central theme in the political discourse. Economists and political figures have warned that food inflation, which has seen significant increases in staples like cassava and potatoes, is eroding the purchasing power of the poorest households and putting pressure on the middle class.
