Dominican Republic expands community health aid, inaugurates new hospital in Santo Domingo

The Directorate General for Community Development (DGDC) and the Dominican Republic Army carried out a medical and social assistance campaign in the Los Solares neighborhood of Barahona province. The operation provided general, ophthalmological, dermatological, pediatric, urological, cardiological, orthopaedic and dental examinations, blood‑pressure checks, as well as appliances, food parcels, mosquito nets and toys for hundreds of vulnerable residents. It was overseen by DGDC head Dr. Modesto Guzmán and Army commander Maj. Gen. Jorge Iván Camino Pérez, reflecting President Luis Abinader’s directive to support the most vulnerable communities.

President Luis Abinader also inaugurated the renovated Hospital Municipal Hacienda Estrella in Santo Domingo Norte. The project, costing more than RD$ 103.7 million, expands the facility to serve roughly 60,000 inhabitants with upgraded pharmacy, vaccination, consultation, surgery, obstetrics, laboratory, radiology and emergency‑triage services. The ceremony was part of a broader weekend agenda that included delivering 1,000 property‑title certificates to 4,000 families in Los Frailes, furthering the administration’s social‑justice agenda.
