Dominican Republic AI strategy faces warnings over dehumanization
The implementation of Artificial Intelligence in government administration presents significant risks, specifically regarding the dehumanization of public services. While the Dominican Republic introduced its National Artificial Intelligence Strategy (ENIA) on October 12, 2023, to modernize citizen services and productive work models, experts warn against delegating sensitive administrative decisions to automated algorithms.
There are concerns that over-reliance on AI could compromise transparency, equity, and institutional responsibility. The risks are categorized into three main areas: dehumanization, lack of protection, and displacement. Critics suggest that the power of transnational technology companies may overwhelm the technical capacity of peripheral nations, potentially leading to an unsustainable dependence on automated systems.
