Dominican Republic and Costa Rica nationals face US extradition and legal proceedings
The Dominican Republic's Executive Power has issued Decree 543-26, ordering the extradition of Dominican citizen Mario Juan García to the United States. García is sought by judicial authorities in Connecticut to face charges including second-degree sexual assault, risking injury to a minor, and promoting a minor's participation in obscene representations.
In a separate legal matter, a Texas judge has granted a three-month extension for Costa Rican national Edwin López, known as ‘Pecho de Rata’, to potentially negotiate a plea deal with the U.S. Department of Justice and the DEA. López faces accusations of international drug trafficking and conspiracy. His trial hearing has been postponed from September to late January 2027 to allow for these negotiations.
