Extradition and legal proceedings of Central American and DR
Overview
Legal proceedings and extradition efforts involving Dominican and Costa Rican nationals have emerged in the United States. The Dominican Republic issued Decree 543-26 to extradite Mario Juan García to Connecticut to face charges including second-degree sexual assault and promoting a minor’s participation in obscene representations.
Concurrently, a Texas judge granted a three-month extension to Costa Rican national Edwin López, also known as ‘Pecho de Rata’. This extension allows López time to potentially negotiate a plea deal with the U.S. Department of Justice and the DEA regarding accusations of international drug trafficking and conspiracy. His trial has been postponed from September to late January 2027.
