Dominican Republic and Ecuador invest in agricultural technology upgrades

In the Dominican Republic, Banco Agrícola administrator Fernando Durán highlighted the need for greater technification of farms. He noted that controlled‑environment poultry production now reaches market weight in 32‑35 days, up from 40‑42 days, allowing the country to produce 22 million chickens and about 300 million eggs each month. Durán said the sector must adopt modern practices and expand export markets, with the bank providing financing and technical support.

In Ecuador, the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries, led by minister Juan Carlos Vega, delivered a package of agricultural equipment and inputs worth more than $484 000 to small and medium producers in the coastal provinces of Guayas, El Oro, Los Ríos and Santa Elena. The aid includes four tractors, eight mobile units, 378 input kits and 26 358 bags of phosphate fertilizer, targeting over 13 000 hectares to improve productivity, lower production costs and strengthen the supply chain from farms to markets.
