Dominican Republic and Ecuador tighten transport regulations

The Dominican Republic's National Institute of Transit and Terrestrial Transport (Intrant) carried out a nationwide operation to regularize motorcycle‑taxi services, intervening 488 motoconcho stops, seizing 599 motorcycles, registering 2,808 operators and detaining 63 people. The effort, spanning June 3‑24, also resulted in the removal of six illegal stops, relocation of two, and the referral of 42 irregular migrants to immigration authorities.

In Ecuador, the National Transit Agency (ANT) extended the deadline for driving with expired licences until 31 August 2026, adding two months to the previous cut‑off of 30 June. The extension aims to ease renewal delays caused by a national holiday and the temporary suspension of both in‑person services and the electronic transit system (SUIT). Drivers are urged to renew before the new deadline to avoid congestion at provincial offices.

Both measures reflect government attempts to improve road safety and administrative efficiency in their respective countries.
