Dominican Republic and Mexico issue weather alerts amid heavy rains

The Dominican Republic’s Emergency Operations Center raised the alert level for eight provinces and the Distrito Nacional to yellow, citing the risk of river flooding, urban inundation and rapid‑runoff rains linked to a high‑altitude trough and tropical wave remnants. Authorities urged residents in the affected areas—Santo Domingo, San Cristóbal, Peravia, San Pedro de Macorís, Barahona, Santiago Rodríguez and Santiago—to stay in contact with civil protection, avoid crossing swollen waterways and refrain from using beach facilities.

In Mexico, the state of Tamaulipas faced a forecast of widespread thunderstorms and heavy rain on June 7, with temperatures reaching up to 36 °C along the northern border. Cities such as Nuevo Laredo, Reynosa, Matamoros and the coastal zone were expected to experience isolated downpours, strong winds and reduced visibility. Local officials advised the public to monitor weather warnings, watch for flash‑flooding and take precautions against lightning and gusts.
