Dominican Republic and Paraguay launch initiatives to prevent violence against women

Governmental and judicial institutions in the Dominican Republic and Paraguay are implementing new initiatives to combat violence against women.

In the Dominican Republic, the National Police and the Ministry of Women held a dialogue session with 300 male officers. The program, led by Deputy Director General Esteban Figuereo García and Minister Gloria Reyes, aims to promote respect-based relationships and new forms of masculinity. Figuereo García stated that any man committing abuse or violence against a woman will be “declared a police target,” emphasizing the institution's commitment to legal prosecution and victim protection.

In Paraguay, the Ministry of Public Defense is conducting a planning session to strengthen comprehensive protection services for victims of gender-based violence. Supported by AECID and the Center for Judicial Studies, the initiative focuses on creating an action plan to ensure that a woman's place of residence does not dictate the level of protection she receives. The project aims to improve institutional responses through strategic objectives and coordinated territorial presence.
