Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico to see scattered showers as trough moves through

A surface trough combined with residual moisture from a recent tropical wave will bring morning showers and isolated thunderstorms to the eastern and northeastern regions of the Dominican Republic. Provinces expected to see rain include La Altagracia, La Romana, El Seibo, Hato Mayor, Monte Plata, San Pedro de Macorís, San Cristóbal, Sánchez Ramírez, Duarte, María Trinidad Sánchez and Samaná. Rainfall will decrease in the afternoon as moisture shifts toward the interior and border areas near the Cordillera Central.

In Puerto Rico, the same trough will cross the island in the morning, shifting wind directions from east‑northeast to east‑southeast. This will favor isolated showers and thunderstorms, especially in the interior, western and northwestern parts of the island, with possible flooding in urban zones, small streams and poorly drained roads. Accumulations of 0.5‑0.75 inch are expected. Temperatures will reach the high 80s to low 90s°F, with heat indices up to 102°F.
