Dominican Republic approves 2027 budget policy focusing on social spending

At the 49th meeting of the Council of Ministers, President Luis Abinader and Vice‑President Raquel Peña approved the Annual Budget Policy for 2027, aligning with the long‑term development plan Meta RD 2036. Minister of the Presidency José Ignacio Paliza presented the policy, which earmarks spending to boost human capital and infrastructure.

Key priorities include maintaining education funding at 4.05 % of GDP, continuing the Horizon 2034 plan to expand schools and the national school transport program, and investing in health facilities, primary‑care units, and the national emergency network. Infrastructure spending will fund highways, integrated urban transport, aqueducts, sanitation systems and housing improvement projects. Additional resources will strengthen productivity and institutions, notably the judiciary, security forces, an intelligent border fence and new correctional centres.

The policy projects a 4.8 % economic growth for 2027 with inflation within the central‑bank target, and serves as the first step before drafting the full State Budget.
