Dominican Republic Army announces disciplinary action and healthcare agreement

The Dominican Republic Army (ERD) has initiated disciplinary measures and an investigation following a video circulating on social media showing a physical altercation between an officer and a recruit at a military facility. The General Command has placed both individuals under preventive arrest and instructed the Inspectorate General and the Directorate of Internal Affairs to conduct an exhaustive investigation to determine the circumstances of the incident in accordance with the Organic Law of the Armed Forces.

Separately, the ERD and the National Health Service (SNS) have signed a cooperation agreement to expand medical care for soldiers and their families. The agreement includes the provision of medical equipment, supplies, and technical assistance to military garrisons, including units in San Isidro, Dajabón, Elías Piña, Jimaní, and Pedernales. The partnership also focuses on hospital security, establishing protocols to prevent violence and manage emergencies or natural disasters within the public health network.
