Dominican Republic Army institutional activities

Overview

The Dominican Republic Army (ERD) has undertaken several institutional initiatives involving social programs, disciplinary oversight, and healthcare cooperation.

In late September, the ERD and the Association of Wives of Officers of the Dominican Republic Army (ADEOERD) launched ‘Formación Deportiva ERD’. This permanent sports training program provides instruction in seven Olympic and universal disciplines to children and adolescents of military members, utilizing mentors such as professional athletes to promote discipline and social well-being.

By late October, the ERD addressed internal conduct by initiating investigations and preventive arrests following a video of a physical altercation between an officer and a recruit. Concurrently, the ERD signed a cooperation agreement with the National Health Service (SNS) to expand medical care, equipment, and technical assistance for soldiers and their families in various military garrisons, while also establishing protocols for hospital security and emergency management.
