Dominican Republic arrests 67 Haitians as Haiti ramps up diplomatic protests

The Haitian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said it is intensifying diplomatic contacts with the Dominican Republic after videos circulated online showing alleged mistreatment of Haitian nationals in the neighboring country. The ministry is seeking verified information from Dominican authorities and emphasizing dialogue to protect the rights of Haitians living, working or transiting in the Dominican Republic.

In parallel, the Dominican Republic’s armed forces reported the detention of 67 Haitian migrants during coordinated operations in the border provinces of Santiago Rodríguez, San Juan and El ías Piña. The raids also led to the arrest of a Dominican driver accused of transporting undocumented migrants. The operations are part of a broader effort by Dominican authorities to curb irregular migration along the Haiti‑Dominican border.
