Dominican Republic authorities conduct major drug and migration operations

Authorities in the Dominican Republic have conducted several major law enforcement operations targeting drug trafficking, illegal alcohol production, and migration violations.

The National Directorate for Drug Control (DNCD) and the Public Ministry carried out simultaneous operations in Santiago and Puerto Plata, resulting in 63 arrests and the seizure of over 12,700 grams of suspected cocaine and marijuana. Additionally, a woman was arrested at Las Américas International Airport attempting to smuggle approximately five kilograms of drugs hidden in denim clothing.

In San Cristóbal, authorities dismantled a clandestine facility in Yaguate dedicated to the illegal manufacture and distribution of alcoholic beverages. The Dominican Association of Rum Producers (ADOPRON) called for further investigations into the financing and supply chains of the operation, which saw the seizure of over 25,000 illicit units.

Regarding migration, the General Directorate of Migration (DGM) reported that 116 foreign nationals were denied entry in July due to security risks, improper documentation, or visa violations. In a separate recent action, 2,624 undocumented individuals were detained over a two-day period, with 2,306 deported, primarily to Haiti.

In Bayaguana, political leader Juan Hubieres has accused members of the Central Investigation Directorate (Dicrim) of involvement in a criminal gang responsible for multiple robberies and murders, including the theft of 35 televisions from the local Olympic Villa.
