Dominican Republic authorities investigate Casa de Cambio Rodríguez for financial fraud

The Dominican Republic's Public Ministry has arrested three individuals—Alejandro Rodríguez Reyes, Ámbar Melissa Rodríguez Ellis, and Alex Ernesto Rodríguez Rondón—for alleged irregular financial operations. The investigation involves two companies: Agente de Cambio Rodríguez Reyes, S.A., which was authorized for currency exchange, and AERR Group, S.R.L., which was not authorized to perform financial or exchange intermediation.

Authorities allege that between December 2020 and April 2024, the suspects used these entities to collect and channel funds from third parties in Dominican pesos, US dollars, and euros. These transactions were reportedly tied to exchange operations, capital returns, and investment returns. The identified financial losses are estimated at 57.8 million pesos, 317,000 US dollars, and 160,000 euros.

A hearing to determine coercion measures, including a request for 12 months of preventive detention, has been postponed to October 13 in La Romana.
