Casa de Cambio Rodríguez financial fraud investigation

Overview

The Dominican Republic’s Public Ministry launched an investigation into Casa de Cambio Rodríguez and AERR Group, S.R.L. for alleged irregular financial operations. Authorities accused Alejandro Rodríguez Reyes, Ámbar Melissa Rodríguez Ellis, and Alex Ernesto Rodríguez Rondón of using these entities to collect and channel funds in pesos, US dollars, and euros between December 2020 and April 2024. The suspected fraud involves estimated losses of 57.8 million pesos, 317,000 US dollars, and 160,000 euros.

Following a judicial hearing in La Romana, a judge ordered one year of preventive detention for the three family members. Alejandro and Alex Ernesto Rodríguez were sent to the Cucama Correction and Rehabilitation Center, while Ámbar Melisa Rodríguez was ordered to be held in a women’s penitentiary in Higüey. The case reportedly affects more than one hundred people as the Public Ministry continues its investigation.
