Dominican Republic Boosts UN Sustainable Development Efforts with CIFAL Host Invitation and Mayor’s Forum Participation

The Liga Municipal Dominicana (LMD) was selected to host the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) CIFAL annual meeting, with a new CIFAL centre to be established in the Dominican Republic for the Central American and Caribbean region. LMD president Víctor D’Aza formally invited representatives of CIFAL training centres after UNITAR announced the decision, and UN Deputy Secretary‑General and UNITAR Executive Director Michelle Gyles Mc Donnough praised the country's commitment to capacity‑building and knowledge exchange for sustainable development.

Separately, Mao mayor Yohendy Jiménez Bonilla attended the UN Forum of Local and Regional Governments in New York on 14 July, focusing on “Multilateralism in network for present and future generations” and the implementation of the 2030 Agenda. The mayor highlighted the municipality’s aim to become more innovative, resilient and prosperous, aligning local policies with the Sustainable Development Goals.
