Dominican Republic deports 1,177 irregular migrants in nationwide crackdown

The Dominican Republic’s Directorate General of Migration (DGM) reported that 1,177 foreign nationals in irregular status were deported after coordinated inter‑diction operations across more than 20 provinces and border points. The sweeps involved the army, police and transportation authorities and targeted areas such as Santo Domingo, Santiago, Dajabón, La Altagracia and Montecristi.

Separate army operations also detained 72 Haitian migrants in Dajabón, 55 in Guayubín (Montecristi province) and additional groups in other locales. All detainees were transferred to migration detention centers before being repatriated to their countries of origin in accordance with the 285‑04 Migration Law. The DGM emphasized that the actions aim to strengthen border security, enforce migration regulations and maintain public order, and announced that similar operations will continue.

The deportations represent the most extensive single‑day removal effort in recent months, reflecting the Dominican government's focus on curbing irregular migration, particularly from Haiti.
