Dominican Republic deportes over 3,200 Haitians in three days amid heightened border enforcement

The Dominican Republic’s Dirección General de Migración (DGM) deported 3,206 undocumented Haitian migrants between June 12 and June 14, after detaining 3,055 irregular migrants in coordinated operations across the country. The three‑day sweep covered the Greater Santo Domingo area, the Cibao region, and border provinces such as Dajabón, El Ías Piña, Jimaní and Pedernales, and involved the army, police, the specialized border security corps, and other state agencies.

Earlier in the week, DGM reported detaining 1,233 undocumented foreigners in a series of interdicción operations in several provinces. In parallel, the Dominican Army used drones and ground patrols to apprehend 70 Haitians in irregular status in the border provinces of Dajabón and Montecristi. The army also seized 174 containers of Mobil Special motor‑oil contraband that had been smuggled from Haiti at the Nonón crossing in Pedro Santana, El Ías Piña.

The authorities say the actions are part of an ongoing strategy to strengthen border control, enforce migration law, and curb smuggling, with further operations planned.
