Dominican Republic detains 1,598 irregular migrants in nationwide operations

The Dominican Republic's General Directorate of Migration (DGM), supported by the Armed Forces and National Police, detained 1,598 foreigners in irregular migratory status during nationwide operations on Wednesday, August 26.

Simultaneous interventions took place across several regions, including the East, Santo Domingo, and border provinces. In the eastern region, arrests were recorded in La Altagracia (54 people), La Romana (56), San Pedro de Macorís (36), El Seibo (26), Monte Plata (16), and Hato Mayor (19). In Santo Domingo, 171 individuals were intercepted in various sectors.

Border control efforts were concentrated in strategic provinces, with 287 detentions in Elías Piña, 139 in Dajabón, 109 in Independencia, and 89 in Pedernales. Of the total detainees, 967 were intercepted directly by migration agents, while others were handed over by the Dominican Army (410), the Specialized Body in Terrestrial Border Security (118), and the National Police (103). Additionally, authorities reported the deportation of 1,112 individuals.
