JCE provides new IDs to over 1,100 residents in Pedro Corto, Dominican Republic

The Dominican Republic’s Central Electoral Board (JCE) conducted a three‑day special cedulation operation in the municipal district of Pedro Corto from 3 to 5 July 2026, coinciding with the local patron saint festivities. A total of 1,152 citizens received the new biometric identity and electoral card, part of a national program to replace the documents of more than nine million Dominicans.

The event was overseen by María Estela de León, a substitute member of the JCE plenary, and district director Tony Ramírez. Authorities mobilized outreach through loudspeaker announcements and flyers in neighboring communities such as Punta Caña, Columna Arriba, La Sabana, Jovallar and La Ceiba. Special mobile units and transportation assistance were provided for persons with disabilities or limited mobility, allowing home visits and free rides to the central registration point.

De León emphasized the JCE’s commitment to decentralizing services, stating, “The presence of the JCE in Pedro Corto shows the institution works in every municipality, not just the capital.” The new card incorporates updated security features and is intended to strengthen both civil and electoral identification across the country.
