Dominican Republic's JCE issues 2 million new ID cards in 90 days

The Junta Central Electoral (JCE) of the Dominican Republic reported that 2 million new identity and electoral cards have been delivered within 90 days of the renewal programme that began on 12 April. The milestone was reached at the La Romana registration centre, where citizen Ana María Mejía Mercedes received the two‑millionth card.

Official statistics show a total of 2,001,006 cards issued, with a gender split of 1,004,502 women and 996,504 men. The largest age group is 31‑35 years (211,810 cards), followed by 36‑40 years and 26‑30 years. The provinces with the highest numbers are Santo Domingo (387,138), Distrito Nacional (283,298) and Santiago (200,452). Overseas, the United States accounts for the most renewals (39,662), with additional volumes in Spain, Italy and other countries.

JCE officials, including President Román Andrés Jáquez Liranzo, used the occasion to urge citizens to complete the renewal promptly, highlighting the new card’s enhanced biometric security, contact‑less chip and QR‑code features.
