Dominican Republic issues alerts as vaguada and tropical wave bring rain

The Dominican Republic's Centre for Emergency Operations (COE) placed multiple provinces under green and yellow weather alerts as a mid‑latitude trough (vaguada) combined with an approaching tropical wave. The alerts cover the Gran Santo Domingo area and provinces including San Pedro de Macorís, San Cristóbal, La Vega, Monte Plata, Duarte, Monseñor Nouel, Sánchez Ramírez, Hato Mayor, Espaillat, Puerto Plata, Santiago and others. The Instituto Dominicano de Meteorología (Indomet) warned of moderate to strong rain, thunderstorms, possible hail, strong wind gusts and a heightened risk of urban and rural flooding, river overflows and landslides. Coastal authorities advised boat operators to remain in port along the Caribbean and Atlantic coasts and urged the public to avoid crossing swollen rivers, using beaches and swimming pools, and to stay hydrated, wear light clothing and limit sun exposure, especially for children, the elderly and pregnant women. High temperatures, driven by the season and Saharan dust, are expected to persist across the country until mid‑July, with maximums exceeding 36 °C in several locations. The COE continues to monitor conditions and may adjust alerts as needed.
