Dominican Republic expands housing and health aid, delivering 700 homes and serving 500 residents

President Luis Abinader handed over 700 apartments in the San José urbanisation of Santo Domingo Norte as part of the Plan Familia Feliz housing programme. The delivery, announced by Housing Minister Víctor Bisonó, aims to benefit more than 1,300 Dominicans, with 434 families already assigned the new units. The project is subsidised with over RD 477 million and fully financed by Banco de Reservas, which provided an RD 1.6 billion loan at a fixed 8 % rate for seven years.

Separately, the Fundación GBC organised a free medical and social‑assistance operation in the El Manguito sector of the Distrito Nacional. Led by foundation president Raymond Rodríguez, the event offered ophthalmology, dentistry and general‑medicine consultations, as well as medicines, food and toys, reaching roughly 500 people, including seniors and children.

Both initiatives reflect the government’s and civil‑society’s push to improve housing security and health access for low‑income communities in the Dominican Republic.
