Dominican Republic expands ID card service hours and widens renewal eligibility
The Junta Central Electoral (JCE) announced that, beginning 1 August, its Extended Service Centers will operate daily from 08:00 to 00:00, eliminating overnight shifts. The new schedule applies to centers in Barahona, Herrera, Distrito Nacional, La Romana, La Vega, Las Américas, San Cristóbal, San Francisco de Macorís, San Pedro de Macorís and Santiago.
In a related decree, the JCE will allow citizens in municipalities with 75,000 inhabitants or fewer to renew their identity and electoral cards regardless of birth month. The exemption does not apply to larger municipalities such as Azua, Distrito Nacional, La Romana, La Vega, Santiago de los Caballeros and several others. New renewal sites—including Cuesta Colorada, Colinas, Colinas Mall and Las Carreras in Santiago de los Caballeros—will offer service Monday‑Friday during regular hours and on weekends and holidays without birth‑month restrictions.
