Dominican Republic expands prison rehabilitation and infrastructure
The Dominican Republic is expanding its prison rehabilitation and infrastructure programs. At the Las Parras Correction and Rehabilitation Center (CCR), new industrial workshops are being established for upholstery, mattress production, and garment manufacturing. The mattress workshop aims to produce 1,000 units monthly, utilizing a workforce of master craftsmen, operators, and assistants. The garment workshop, supported by the National Institute of Student Welfare (Inabie), will focus on producing school uniforms.
Simultaneously, the government has commenced construction of a new Correction and Rehabilitation Center in Neiba. This project, costing over RD$335 million, will replace an existing facility that is currently overcrowded. The new center will span approximately 63,000 square meters and has a capacity for 400 inmates. Designed to support social reintegration, the facility will include technical training workshops, classrooms, a library, an agricultural area, and sports courts.
