Dominican Republic and El Salvador brace for afternoon thunderstorms amid tropical wave
A tropical wave moving south of the Dominican Republic, combined with a vorticity trough (vaguada), is set to produce scattered showers and possible thunderstorms this afternoon in several provinces, including Monte Plata, Hato Mayor, La Vega, Monseñor Nouel, Dajabón, San Juan, Elías Piña and Pedernales. Temperatures are expected to stay between 33 °C and 35 °C, and authorities advise staying hydrated, wearing light clothing and limiting sun exposure between 11:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.
In El Salvador, the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources (MARN) forecasts rainy and stormy conditions from late afternoon through the night across the north, east, central and coastal zones. High temperatures of up to 40 °C are projected, with wind gusts of 40‑45 km/h and frequent lightning. The public is urged to monitor official updates and take precautions, especially in mountainous and coastal areas.
Mexico’s Quintana Roo also expects intermittent rain and thunderstorms as the same wave brings moist Caribbean air, with temperatures ranging from 36 °C to 40 °C and coastal wind gusts of 30‑50 km/h.
