Dominican Republic faces extreme heat through September 22
The Dominican Republic is experiencing a period of severe to extreme heat. According to the Dominican Institute of Meteorology (Indomet), temperatures are expected to exceed 37°C through September 22, with the highest impact anticipated in the northwest region.
Recent data shows temperatures reaching as high as 38.7°C in Valverde, with other provinces like Santiago Rodríguez, Independencia, Santiago, San Juan, and Monte Cristi also recording significant heat. Meteorologists attribute these conditions to the warmest time of the year, the arrival of dry and stable air, and the presence of light Sahara dust particles.
Authorities and the NOAA have issued warnings regarding the heat risk. Recommendations for the population include frequent water consumption, wearing light-colored and loose clothing, and avoiding direct sun exposure between 11:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. Special care is advised for children, the elderly, pregnant women, and individuals with underlying health conditions.
