Dominican Republic faces scattered showers and high heat amid tropical trough
The Dominican Republic's Institute of Meteorology (Indomet) warned that a lingering trough will bring scattered morning showers to coastal south and east provinces, including La Altagracia, San Pedro de Macorís, La Romana, Gran Santo Domingo, San Cristóbal, Barahona and Pedernales.
In the afternoon, retained humidity combined with daytime heating and orographic effects is expected to produce additional showers, possible thunderstorms and gusty winds across central areas such as Hato Mayor, Monte Plata, Sánchez Ramírez, La Vega, Santiago Rodríguez and San Juan. The National Forecast Center has kept a meteorological alert for potential urban flooding in Gran Santo Domingo and San Pedro de Macorís. Temperatures will stay elevated, with lows around 23‑25 °C and highs of 33‑35 °C. Authorities advise the public to stay well‑hydrated, wear light clothing, avoid prolonged sun exposure between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m., and give special care to children, the elderly and pregnant women.
