Dominican Republic weather: Heat and afternoon storms forecast

The Dominican Republic is experiencing a period of high temperatures and variable weather conditions. According to the Dominican Institute of Meteorology (INDOMET), the country is facing hot weather with high thermal sensations, driven by humidity and light concentrations of Saharan dust.

Weather patterns include morning showers in several provinces, particularly near the southern coast in areas such as La Altagracia, La Romana, San Pedro de Macorís, San Cristóbal, and Peravia. While these rains are expected to decrease during the morning, the interaction of a weak trough with local heating and orography is predicted to trigger afternoon showers, thunderstorms, and occasional wind gusts in provinces including Monte Plata, Hato Mayor, Duarte, La Vega, Monseñor Nouel, San Juan, and Elías Piña.

Temperatures are expected to range between minimums of 24°C and maximums of 36°C. Authorities have advised the population, especially vulnerable groups like children, pregnant women, and the elderly, to stay hydrated, wear light clothing, and avoid direct sun exposure between 11:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.
